The seventh annual Rake ‘n’ Bake

Brookfield Briefing
The seventh annual Rake ‘n’ Bake is scheduled to take place on Nov. 13.

The event began in 1998 when its founder, Peter Brady, and his family decided to volunteer to help senior citizens with raking their leaves in the fall. Five other people pitched in to help rake the leaves of two parishioners of St. Joseph Church and they ended the day at a local pizza parlor with a lunch celebration.

By 2003, there were more than 800 volunteers assisting 50 people with their yard clean-up. After the work was done, volunteers and their customers enjoyed a luncheon in the parking lot of St. Joseph Church. No one is ever charged for the raking service.

People interested in being part of this year’s event should e-mail PeterBrady@hdhm.org or call (203) 740-1243.

Volunteers should let Brady know if they will be using a large walk-behind blower, a small hand held blower or a large tarp so that teams can be planned accordingly.
