If you have yet to see todays Danbury News Times, Section B front page, there was a very nice article written by the reporter on this years 9th Annual Rake n Bake featuring the teens of the area pitching in on one of the 62 properties.

Call for Help

I have been in contact with the volunteer coordinators at the Dorothy Day Homeless Shelter in Danbury CT. and they have a serious need for single serve small individual trial size items for their nightly guests who frequent this Hospitality house. These are folks who for personal hygiene reasons will not be able to share any large containers of items, require trial size articles ONLY.

Additionally, if you are a traveler and just happen to be a collector of such items from the hotel establishments, this is the perfect size. Clean out your cabinets today. Hotel soaps, shampoo, mouth wash units would work just fine.

If you are a dentist and receive samples of tooth paste or tooth brushes, this too would be a perfect item. We will accept full cases of anything that fits the need.

One morning while I was serving at the shelter we had no tooth paste or a tooth brush. How would you feel tomorrow morning if that happened to you? It is not very pleasant, right?

The following list was provided by Dorothy Day for your consideration.

Single service sizes:

Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body lotions, Tooth Brushes, Tooth Paste, Razors, Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Ladies Napkins, Combs, Q-Tips, Mouth Wash, etc.

How to Donate:

1. You are asked to drop off any items at the top of my garage at the address below placed in a plastic covering should there be any threatening weather.

2. If you wish to make a financial donation for me to purchase the required items, great. Check should be payable to HDHM Ministry and mailed to my address below. Note in the memo section "Shelter Supplies".

When to Donate:

1. This drive will be for 4 weeks, ending on December 15th, 2006 in time for a great Christmas gift for the Homeless.

2. Drop off 24/7 and we will pack in one of the 30 boxes we hope to fill in 4 weeks.

Who can Donate:

You, your school class, youth groups, social groups, real estate offices, scout troops, athletic teams, corporations, church groups, or anyone with an open heart for the less fortunate.

Target:

It is my intention to provide enough product for a 12 month period, so if we all reach deep, we can certainly make it happen. I have a very large garage so let it rip.

Any questions, you know how to reach me. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Boss Man Pete

Rake n' Bake 2007

Before we close the book on the R/B 2006, I recall some of our teams were able to help other non-clients with neighboring properties and still get back for hot dogs.

If you know of anyone out there who was served or could be served by us in 2007 with leaf clean up please let me have their names, addresses and phone numbers now so I can add them to our ever expanding list of Rake n Bake clients. Thanks

Blanket Drive

I have become aware of a real need for new or used blankets as we are fast approaching the cold winter months. The blankets will be distributed in the Greater Danbury area during December, so I have made the following arrangements:

We will have a truck stationed at this years Rake N Bake in the Brookfield High School parking lot on November 11, from 7AM until 9AM. In that two hour window it is our hope that you can drop as many blankets as possible for the homeless, needy families, and organizations who care for the less fortunate so they are well covered this winter.

If you are not attending the Rake n Bake but wish to clear your closet of blankets no longer needed, please stop by with your items so we can make this a huge success to keep our fellow citizens warm.

Thanks for the help with this blanket drive.
